2171 Devil Dog –
I am very pleased with the brightness of this product. I purchased two kits, one for the Great Hall and one for the Whomping Willow. BriksMax ensures a genuine connection with their use of actual LEGO pieces in their kits. The wires are thin but surprisingly durable. However, following the instructions can be cumbersome if you are building this set or any other set with BriksMax lights simultaneously. I had to modify the LEGO Flame pieces for the fireplace as the lights wouldn’t stay in the 1 x 1 round piece with the flame piece attached. It was also quite tedious and irritating to run the wiring under other LEGO floor pieces. This was the most frustrating part of the build. The kit comes with everything you need, including tweezers which I overlooked but would have been helpful. There are also a couple of options for powering it up, either AAs (not included) or USB. I would recommend using USB as it makes the lights brighter. However, I didn’t save much time by installing the lights at the same time as constructing the set. Overall, I really like this kit. I did consider other kits with different lighting schemes, but the USB power option and price of this kit were the deciding factors for me. Lastly, if you plan on buying this for children who may want to take apart the set, I would advise against it as it is meant to be a decoration for built LEGO sets.

This is our second Briksmax set, and we were really happy with the first one. However, we encountered a problem with this set. After spending two hours putting it together in the already-built Great Hall, we found that the final LED power cord came out of the large window at the far end of the Great Hall. The cord to connect the entire set to the battery box was only three inches away from this window, so it was impossible to loop the battery box back around and place it inside the set for transport to its final display position. This resulted in a mishap where the heavy battery box slipped from my daughter’s fingers while carrying it to her display shelf, causing all of the tiny electrical wires to be yanked out of their sockets and ruining the entire lighting kit. We were all extremely disappointed with this outcome. If Briksmax had made the final connection wires longer, around ten inches instead of three, it would have been possible to safely loop the battery box around and insert it into the model while it was being carried. This would also make it easier to connect multiple sets together. Additionally, once the electrical wires are inserted into the connectors, they cannot be removed, which is a real problem. Despite our disappointment, our first kit was a success, but unfortunately, this second one has led to heartache. Considering we spent $40 on a lighting kit, we would have expected Briksmax to provide more than just the absolute minimum amount of connection wire. As a result, I am an unhappy dad.

During this year of Covid and being stuck at home, BRIKSMAX products have been a fantastic way to keep my kids engaged and fostering their creativity. The ability to illuminate their Lego creations has kept my 11-almost-12-year-old daughter interested in Legos, even after her Lego Robotics team was canceled due to the pandemic. What’s great about the lighting system is how easy it is to use. There’s no need to worry about polarity or port numbers, as there’s only one way to plug it in. Plus, it doesn’t require specific things to be plugged into certain spots. Adding more lights by cascading the port expansion boards is simple and flexible. My daughter found it most convenient to build the Lego set first and then incorporate the BRIKSMAX lighting package. We plugged in the power right away to the first expansion board, so each time she added a light, she could instantly see the set come to life with the new illumination. This was immensely helpful in teaching her to focus and stay engaged throughout the challenging process of building a complex Lego set. Thank you, BRIKSMAX, for providing such a wonderful experience.
